Mourners gathered in Chicago on Feb. 26 to pay tribute to the Rev. Jesse L. Jackson. Supporters lined up outside the Rainbow PUSH headquarters before the morning service, some chanting “I am somebody” and “Keep hope alive,” phrases long associated with Jackson’s civil rights leadership and activism. Family members greeted visitors inside as community leaders, elected officials and residents reflected on Jackson’s decades of advocacy for racial and economic justice. The memorial is part of a series of events honoring Jackson’s life and legacy that will be held in Chicago, South Carolina and Washington, DC. before his funeral in Chicago on March 7.
