Chicago recently issued a permit for a new AI-data center to be built on 2538 S. Wabash Ave, which is a substantial technological infrastructure project and a large investment for the city, reported by Option Premier.

The center is designed with energy efficiency in mind and will provide computing and processing power to Chicago. The location downtown is an important infrastructural point for AI and data centers because of Chicago's dense development and requirement for computing, as well as being a crossroads for the countries' fiber optical internet cable system as well as proximity to Lake Michigan's freshwater, according to Option Premier.

While AI data centers are rare in urban centers of cities, Chicago is excited to be a pioneering site in the region for development of the new pro AI business and logistics property where they are building this center.

Construction will bring jobs to Chicago, being conducted by power construction and will be finished with “Robust AI Data” being produced and transferred in late 2026 to 2027, according to Option Premier.

This center aims to have minimal impact on the environment and aims to use only an efficient amount of energy for the city.
