May 13 was a day to remember for senior audio arts major at Columbia College Chicago Kathrynn Vettas, as students, faculty and musicians came together to support Vettas, who is battling cancer while finishing her degree.
A benefit concert was held at Bassline Music and Entertainment, a music venue in the South Loop, to bring a community together through music.
Vettas learned she had cancer after months of unexplained symptoms and doctor visits. Despite chemotherapy and immunotherapy treatments every two weeks, she was still attending classes and preparing to walk across the stage with her classmates at commencement.
Music has been a huge part of Vettas’ life, which made the concert even more meaningful as she continues treatment and graduation preparations.
