Columbia College Chicago isn’t the only college suffering from building closures within the city.

DePaul University’s Merle Reskin Theatre is planning on closing at the end of the school year. The historic building was built in December of 1910 and bought by the university in 1978.

The building’s closure brings further questions about DePaul’s budget cuts following the university’s elimination of over a hundred staff positions in December of 2025.

DePaul has not officially announced the closure of the building. According to WBEZ, a spokesperson on behalf of the university said, “the university is working to determine the future of the Merle Reskin Theater.”

This follows the university's decision to close their art museum in June.
