A South Loop protected bike lane project on 18th Street between Clark Street and Indiana Avenue has been paused by city officials, and some of the newly installed lanes are being removed, as transportation planners reassess the design and impacts, Block Club Chicago first reported.

Ald. Pat Dowell (3rd) said she asked the city to pause the project after some residents raised concerns about safety and mobility along the newly configured roadway.

Crews have already taken down portions of bike lanes that had been installed, reflecting the pause while the project is reevaluated by the Chicago Department of Transportation and local officials.

The pause means further work on the project is on hold as elected officials and city staff look into the issues raised by neighbors, with future decisions pending the outcome of that reassessment.
