The Museum of Contemporary Photography, which is housed in Columbia’s 600 S. Michigan Ave. building, is celebrating its 50th anniversary by taking a look back at the museum's archive through their “Collecting Through the Decades” curated show.

Pulling from an archive of over 18,000 pieces, the showcase looks to highlight the vast collection of themes and artists held in its permanent collection.

Various mediums are on display at the exhibit, including photography, painting and non-traditional abstract works.

Student Coordinator Orianna D’Landazuri feels events such as these are important to visualize the growth of the collection and the institution itself, paying attention to the history of what is collected and displayed, and what is saved in the archives.

The museum is open to the public, and the show will run until May 16.
