Spring break is right around the corner, and traveling may cost a little bit more this year. Airfare is climbing higher as jet fuel prices soar, pushing up the costs of flights.
The prices of jet fuel are rising as tensions continue escalating in the Middle East, causing airline prices to cost more. Reports link the spike of fuel costs to the conflict in Iran.
O’Hare is expecting to see one of its busiest summers ever this year. In conjunction, officials are considering cutting daily flights to reduce congestion, meaning that fewer flights and higher demand could keep ticket prices elevated in the weeks ahead.
Travelers are already feeling the impact, paying more or changing their plans to keep costs down.
Carmen Rivero, a sophomore animation major at Columbia College Chicago, said that they are not traveling this spring break due to their finances being tight.
“With an increase in prices, it’s definitely not anywhere on my list to travel anytime soon with prices being the way they are,” Rivero said.
