A new corridor on the South Shore Line is providing easier train travel to downtown Chicago for commuters from northwest Indiana.
The new line is an 8 mile extension with three new stops connecting North Hammond to Munster and Dyer, Indiana.
Service on the new corridor began on March 31 and commuters are already noticing more relaxed commutes from the Hammond Gateway Station. Ground was broken for the new development on April 16.
The corridor came from an expansion formerly known as the West Lake Corridor Project.
Some commuters are hopeful the new developments could lead to more train availability in other parts of northwest Indiana.
The corridor may only be eight miles long, but the added train availability brings the region closer together.
